Ciro Guerra (born 6 February 1981) is a highly acclaimed Colombian film director and screenwriter. He has made significant strides in his career since his debut in 1998, becoming a prominent figure in the Colombian and international film industry. He is lauded for his 2015 film Embrace of the Serpent, which propelled him to international recognition when it was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards. Nods from the Academy also came for his film The Wind Journeys, chosen as the Colombian entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Academy Awards. His first film, Wandering Shadows, came out when he was 23 and was Colombia's submission for the Academy Awards. In 2017, he took on the role of an executive producer for the Netflix limited series Green Frontier. His fourth feature film, Birds of Passage, received significant praise, as did his adaptation of J. M. Coetzee's novel Waiting for the Barbarians, starring notable actors such as Johnny Depp and Robert Pattinson. Guerra has had an illustrious career, with his contributions extending beyond filmmaking. He served as the jury president of the International Critics' Week section of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
