Hansal Mehta

Hansal Mehta (born 29 April 1968) is a distinguished Indian filmmaker who began his journey with the television show Khana Khazana (1993–2000), eventually transitioning to film direction. With works such as Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! (2000), Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai? (2002), and Woodstock Villa (2008) under his name, he received significant acclaim for Shahid (2013), a film which won him the National Film Award for Best Direction. Mehta was nominated for a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Film for Faraaz (2023). He graced the television arena with Scam 1992 (2020) and Scoop (2023), both of which experienced significant success and recognition in various award platforms. Born in a middle-class Gujarati family from Mumbai on 29 April 1968, he gained insights into classical music and studied computer engineering before venturing into film. He began directing in 1993 with the TV cookery show Khana Khazana, launching the television career of well-known celebrity chef, Sanjeev Kapoor. His debut as a feature film director came with ...Jayate. Despite ups and downs in his career, he gained significant fame with Shahid (2013), a biographical film on the life of human rights lawyer Shahid Azmi. His other noteworthy works include CityLights, Aligarh (2016) and the widely acclaimed Sony Liv show Scam 1992. His recent work includes Faraaz (2023) and Captain Indian.
