Julien Temple

Julien Temple (born 26 November 1953), is a profoundly respected British film, documentary and music video director, acclaimed for his unique, eccentric style. Born in Kensington, London, he was first introduced to the film world through the works of renowned French anarchist director Jean Vigo. His passion for the punk scene of the mid-'70s in London led to him documenting many gigs of The Sex Pistols, his first step into a career that is defined by its intricate mix of documentary footage, animated scenes, and specially shot clips. His first film, a documentary about The Sex Pistols, sprouted numerous off-beat projects, including The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle, Absolute Beginners and a documentary film about Glastonbury. In the late 1990s, Temple moved back to the UK, continuing his work on films and music videos after a stint in the United States working with popular artists such as Duran Duran and Janet Jackson.

From 2002 to 2005, he painstakingly crafted a feature-length documentary about the Glastonbury Festival, which depicted not only his own, but also fans' experiences. Temple's artistic achievements culminated in his film about his friend, Joe Strummer, The Future Is Unwritten, and his most recent works include a documentary on Canvey Island legends Dr. Feelgood, Oil City Confidential, and Requiem For Detroit? (2010). His personal life is closely interconnected with his film career, with his wife Amanda Temple and three children, one of whom, Juno Temple, is a recognized actress.
