Niels Arden Oplev

Niels Arden Oplev, born 26th March 1961, is a tremendously talented Danish film director and screenwriter. Born in Oue, Denmark, his remarkable career began with his 1996 film Portland that was entered into the prestigious 46th Berlin International Film Festival. This marked the start of his cinematic journey, but his real moment of international recognition came in 2009. That year, Oplev directed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, a Swedish film based on the novel by Stieg Larsson, which won critical acclaim globally. The film shattered box office records in Europe, remarkably grossing over 100 million US dollars. Despite the film's success, Oplev elected not to continue directing the second and third parts of the Millennium Trilogy due to time constraints. His commitment to quality over quantity marks his dedication to his craft. His cinematic peregrinations took another significant turn in 2012, he directed the pilot of a 13-episode mini-series based on Stephen King's novel Under the Dome for CBS. In 2013, Oplev graced the silver screen again with Dead Man Down, an action thriller with a star-studded cast that included Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace. He then journeyed into the world of television, directing the pilot episode of Mr. Robot for USA Network in 2015. The series earned two Emmy nominations, further solidifying Oplev’s reputation of a visionary director who is not afraid to explore new territories.
