Patryk Vega (born Patryk Sebastian Krzemieniecki on 2 January 1977 in Warsaw) is a prolific Polish film director known for his gritty, high‑octane genre pieces that have dominated Poland’s box‑office in the 2010s. Growing up without a father, Vega assumed adult responsibilities early, a circumstance he has often cited as a catalyst for the hard‑edged realism that permeates his storytelling. As a teenager he excelled on the football field, captaining his school’s midfield line, and later pursued studies in sociology at the Collegium Civitas, an academic background that informs his nuanced depictions of social hierarchies and masculinity. He entered the film industry as a production assistant between 1998 and 1999, gaining practical experience behind the scenes before transitioning to directing his first feature in 2005, a year that marks the official start of his active period. Since then Vega has built a reputation for delivering commercially successful films such as Pitbull, Botoks and Kobiety mafii, works that blend crime thriller conventions with an unapologetic exploration of moral ambiguity. Critics often note his ability to tap into contemporary Polish anxieties, employing stylised violence and kinetic editing to create a cinematic language that resonates with broad audiences while sparking academic debate on gender and power dynamics. In 2021 his three production companies reported cumulative losses of PLN 11.3 million, highlighting the volatile financial landscape of independent filmmaking in Poland. Announcing a shift in 2022, Vega declared that his forthcoming Polish project would be an autobiographical film, after which he intends to pursue English‑language productions aimed at an international market. Beyond his directorial work, he is occasionally credited under the pseudonym “Bezaleel,” a nod to his personal branding that underscores his multifaceted identity within the modern European film scene.
