**Robert Anthony Rodriguez** (/rɒˈdriːɡɛz/; born June 20, 1968) is a remarkable American filmmaker, composer, and visual effects supervisor. He is renowned for shooting, editing, producing, and scoring in many of his films, predominantly in Mexico and his home state of Texas. Rodriguez gained mainstream success with his 1992 action film El Mariachi, which grossed significantly against a meager budget, leading to two sequels known as the Mexico Trilogy: Desperado (1995), and Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003). He further directed the cult classic From Dusk till Dawn in 1996 and developed its television series adaptation (2014–2016). A notable part of Rodriguez's work is the 2005 neo-noir crime thriller Sin City and its 2014 sequel, both of which were adapted from the graphic novel of the same name. His diverse portfolio includes kids' franchises such as Spy Kids and esteemed films such as Planet Terror (2007), Machete (2010), and Alita: Battle Angel (2019). He is a close collaborator of filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, with whom he co-founded the A Band Apart production company. Rodriguez's unique style reflects in his films, characterized by quick cuts, intense zooms, and fast camera movements exhibited with a sense of humor. Rodriguez is a passionate supporter of digital filmmaking. Robert Rodriguez was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Mexican parents. He was commissioned to videotape the school's football games and developed a love for film at a young age, further nurtured by his interest in video editing and short film making during college. One of Rodriguez's unique filmmaking techniques is known as 'Mariachi-style', wherein creativity, not money, is used to solve problems. In addition to this, his 'Robert Rodriguez list' concept, comprising a list of accessible resources, has been widely appreciated and adopted in the filmmaking industry. Throughout his successful career, Rodriguez has been influenced and inspired by multiple filmmakers and films, which reflect in his diverse body of work. He resides in Austin, Texas, where the Austin Film Festival presented him with the Extraordinary Contribution to Filmmaking Award in 2010.
