Tarsem Singh Dhandwar, known professionally as Tarsem, is an Indian director widely recognized for his work in films, music videos, and commercials. Born in Jalandhar, Punjab to a Punjabi Sikh family, Tarsem, a graduate from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, launched his career by directing music videos, including the Grammy Award-winning "Losing My Religion" by R.E.M. His directorial debut in feature films was 'The Cell' (2000), with Jennifer Lopez in the lead role. In 2003, Tarsem directed one of the most elaborate Pepsi commercials, which starred Enrique Iglesias.
Tarsem's second film, 'The Fall', debuted at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival, marking his unique craft and vision. Other notable works include 'Immortals' (2011) and 'Mirror Mirror' (2012), an adaptation of the Brothers Grimm story of 'Snow White'. After nearly 26 years, Tarsem made his return to music videos with Lady Gaga's single '911' in 2020. In 2021, he won significant acclaim for his Super Bowl ad for Toyota and his Microsoft Windows 11 commercial. His 2023 film 'Dear Jassi' won the Platform Prize at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
