Zack Snyder

Zachary Edward Snyder, known as Zack Snyder, is an American filmmaker, born on March 1, 1966. He made his feature film debut in 2004 with Dawn of the Dead, a remake of the 1978 horror film. He has directed or produced a number of comic book and superhero films, including 300 (2006) and Watchmen (2009), and started the DC Extended Universe with Man of Steel (2013). He also directed the follow-ups, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017), which had a director's cut released in 2021. Other films in his portfolio include Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole (2010), Sucker Punch (2011), Army of the Dead (2021), and the two-part space opera films, Rebel Moon (2023) and Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver (2024). In 2004, founded the production company The Stone Quarry with his wife Deborah Snyder and producing partner Wesley Coller. Snyder was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, where he graduated with a BFA in film in 1989. He made his first film during his high school years using a camera gifted by his supportive mother. He directed advertisements and music videos where he met his future wife Deborah, who was then a music producer. The Netflix production Army of the Dead was a special project for Snyder as he served as his own cinematographer. Snyder has been described as one of the most polarizing directors of modern cinema, with his work generating both intense admiration and criticism.
