Let's Be Cops 2014

Two lifelong friends, Justin (portrayed by Damon Wayans Jr.) and Ryan (played by Jake Johnson), reflect on a pact they made years ago: if they hadn’t achieved their dreams in Los Angeles by the age of thirty, they would return to their hometown of Columbus, Ohio. At this point in their lives, Justin is struggling as a rejected video game designer, while Ryan has found a niche appearing in local commercials for various congenital diseases, including herpes.

One fateful night, they are involved in a minor accident when their vehicle gets bumped by an Albanian gang filled with intimidating muscle men. In the midst of this tension, Justin tries to pitch a video game centered around police officers—only to be shot down by his boss, Todd (Jon Lajoie), who insists that people are more interested in topics like vampires and zombies than cops. However, Ryan sees potential for a fun twist and convinces Justin to use police uniforms from his pitch for their college reunion party.

During the reunion, confronted by their past failures, both friends agree to honor their childhood pact. On their way home dressed as cops, they experience a surprising turn of events when the girls in the area start to notice them, and even one approaches to kiss them. This newfound confidence pushes Justin to finally catch the eye of Josie, a waitress at the local diner, Georgie’s.

However, things take a dangerous turn when they discover the Albanians have been threatening Georgie over a business deal. Seizing the moment, Ryan steps in to defend her, causing the gang to retreat. The local community begins to recognize them as heroes, boosting Justin’s reputation with Josie. But this act of bravery catches the attention of Mossi (played by James D’Arcy), the leader of the Albanian gang, who retaliates by sending threats their way.

Determined to continue the ruse, Ryan commits to their act further, studying police procedures online and modifying an old police car to look like a real patrol vehicle. The situation escalates when they are mistaken for strippers at a bachelorette party. Nevertheless, Justin finds himself increasingly involved in Ryan’s schemes, all while developing a deeper relationship with Josie.

As they dive into their new roles, they get tangled in a series of comedic yet risky situations, including intervening in a catfight between sorority sisters. Their antics soon lead them to an encounter with Patrol Officer Segars (played by Rob Riggle), who almost exposes their facade. Thankfully, Ryan talks their way out of trouble, gaining camaraderie with Segars, who introduces them to a deeper side of police life.

When a distress call emerges, the friends must navigate through real danger, with Justin becoming increasingly anxious about the consequences of their deception. After realizing the severity of their actions, he attempts to retire from the charade, but love draws him back when Josie calls, revealing she’s been harassed by Mossi. The duo’s investigations lead them down a path filled with unexpected twists, including danger, deception, and mob connections.

As they unearth a suspicious shipment linked to the Albanian mob, Justin finds himself in precarious situations, ultimately facing off against people far more dangerous than they ever anticipated. Tensions rise when Ryan delivers evidence to a corrupt detective, Detective Brolin (Andy García), who turns out to be working with Mossi. In a climactic showdown, alliances are tested, friendships are rekindled, and Justin and Ryan realize that with great power, comes greater responsibility.

In a final showdown, they confront Mossi, aided by Segars, leading to a heroic yet chaotic conclusion. Emerging from their misadventures, both Justin and Ryan find purpose: Justin becomes a successful game developer, while Ryan successfully graduates from the police academy. The film wraps with their lives taking a turn for the better, as Justin mends things with Josie, and Ryan convinces him to put the costumes back on for one last patrol, ensuring their escapades might just continue.
