Abimana Aryasatya

Abimana Aryasatya, born Robertino on 24 October 1982 in Jakarta, Indonesia, is a distinguished Indonesian actor and film producer whose career spans over two decades. The son of a Spanish father, Roberto Candelas Aguinaga, and a Chinese‑Indonesian mother, Ie Siu Khiauw, he entered the entertainment world in the mid‑1990s, initially working behind the scenes as a stand‑in and crew member before securing his first on‑screen role in the popular TV series Lupus Millenia under his birth name. After his big‑screen debut with Missing and 12.00 AM in 2005, a brief hiatus saw him explore a culinary business in Semarang, yet he continued to appear in low‑budget films such as Miracle: Menantang Maut (2007). Returning to the spotlight in 2010 with the soap opera Sinar, he adopted the stage name Abimana Aryasatya in 2011, a decision motivated by a desire to forge a new identity separate from his father’s legacy. His breakthrough came with the reboot Catatan (Harian) Si Boy, earning him his first Indonesian Movie Awards nomination and establishing him as a leading man capable of handling diverse genres.

In the following years, Abimana delivered a series of critically acclaimed performances, notably in the horror‑thriller Shackled (2012), the globally resonant 99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa (2013), and the adventurous Haji Backpacker (2014), each role showcasing his versatility and depth. His portrayal of comedian Dono in Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss! Part 1 (2016) contributed to the film becoming the highest‑grossing Indonesian release of its time, and earned him the Indonesian Box Office Movie Award for Best Actor. Expanding his creative footprint, he debuted as a producer in 2018 with The Adventure of a Thunder Catcher and co‑produced the horror hit May the Devil Take You. Recent projects such as Netflix’s The Night Comes for Us (2018) and The Big 4 (2022) have cemented his international appeal, while his personal journey—embracing Islam at thirteen, marrying actress Inong Nindya Ayu in 2001, and raising four children—adds a compelling layer to his public persona.
