***Angela Evelyn Bassett***, born August 16, 1958, is an American actress revered for her powerful performances in film and television since the 1980s, with a considerable catalogue of accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award and two Golden Globe Awards. Also, she has been nominated for two Academy Awards. As recognition of her influence and contributions to the industry, Time magazine honored her as one of the 100 most influential people globally in 2023, and she also received an Academy Honorary Award. Bassett gained prominence for her portrayal of singer Tina Turner in *What's Love Got to Do with It* (1993), earning a Golden Globe Award and a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Her success continued with roles in *Boyz n the Hood* (1991), *Malcolm X* (1992), *Waiting to Exhale* (1995), *Vampire in Brooklyn* (1995), *How Stella Got Her Groove Back* (1998), and *Music of the Heart* (1999).
