Brady Corbet

Brady James Monson Corbet (born August 17, 1988) is an American filmmaker and former actor whose career has spanned over two decades, beginning as a child performer on network television before evolving into an acclaimed auteur of cinematic drama. Raised in Scottsdale, Arizona by a single mother of Irish, Serbian and Ashkenazi Jewish descent, Corbet attended Catholic school and entered the industry at age eleven with a guest spot on The King of Queens, quickly moving into voice work for the English dub of the Japanese series NieA under 7 and later appearing in the animated series I My Me! Strawberry Eggs. His early film work includes memorable roles in Thirteen (2003) and Mysterious Skin (2004), where his portrayal of a troubled teenager earned him recognition at the Venice Film Festival, while subsequent performances in Funny Games (2007), Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011) and Melancholia (2011) solidified his reputation as a versatile and introspective actor. In 2013 Corbet announced his shift to directing, debuting with the psychologically charged The Childhood of a Leader (2015), which won Best Director in the Horizons section at Venice and signaled his emergence as a bold storyteller. He followed this with the musically infused Vox Lux (2018), co‑written with his longtime partner Norwegian filmmaker Mona Fastvold, and the ambitious period epic The Brutalist (2024), a film that captured ten Academy Award nominations, a Silver Lion, a BAFTA and a Golden Globe for Best Director. The Brutalist’s critical success affirmed Corbet’s capacity to blend intimate character study with sweeping historical scope, positioning him among the most compelling voices of his generation. Despite stepping away from acting in 2014, he continues to shape contemporary cinema through his distinct visual language and collaborative spirit, while also navigating parenthood with his daughter Ada, born in 2014.
