Carey Hannah Mulligan (born 28 May 1985) is an English actress known for her critically acclaimed performances in the film industry. Her acting journey took flight with her professional acting debut on stage in Kevin Elyot's play Forty Winks at the Royal Court Theatre. She segued into the film industry with a supporting role in Pride & Prejudice, followed by diverse roles in the TV drama series Bleak House, the TV film Northanger Abbey, and guest starring in the Doctor Who episode Blink. She received her first major breakthrough for her role as a 1960s schoolgirl in the coming-of-age film An Education, which won her the BAFTA Award for Best Actress. Awards and accolades continued to be bestowed upon her for her significant contributions to films like Never Let Me Go, Drive, Shame, Inside Llewyn Davis, Far from the Madding Crowd, Suffragette, Mudbound, and She Said. She has also had her highest-grossing release in the period drama The Great Gatsby. Mulligan's brilliance in acting continued to shine in the Broadway revival of David Hare's Skylight, where she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress.
