Carol Duarte

Carol Duarte (born Carolina da Cunha Duarte on 10 July 1991 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian actress who has quickly become one of the most acclaimed talents of her generation. She began studying theatre at fifteen, participating in workshops across the ABC Paulista region before enrolling in the School of Dramatic Arts at the University of São Paulo, where she honed the craft that would later earn her numerous awards. Duarte made her television debut in the 2017 Rede Globo telenovela A Força do Querer, portraying Ivan Garcia, a wealthy young man who discovers he is transgender; the role garnered widespread critical praise and positioned her as a prominent voice for LGBT rights in Brazil. Following the success of the soap, she transitioned to film, delivering a breakthrough performance as the titular Eurídice in Karim Aïnouz’s The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão (2019), a role she shared with legendary actress Fernanda Montenegro. Her nuanced interpretation earned her the APCA Best Film Actress award, a Platino Award for Best Actress, and a nomination for the Guarani Prize, confirming her versatility across mediums. In addition to screen work, Duarte has remained active in theatre, appearing in productions such as Angustia, A Visita da Velha Senhora, and the solo show A Visita in 2023, where she explored themes of confinement during a pandemic. Beyond her artistic achievements, she is an outspoken feminist and left‑ist activist, openly discussing her lesbian identity since 2017 and advocating for social and political change. She lives with her partner Aline Klein, a relationship that began in 2014, and continues to expand her portfolio with international projects like La Chimera (2022) alongside actors Josh O'Connor and Isabella Rossellini.
