Carrie Frances Fisher was an American actress and writer who was born on October 21, 1956. She gained global recognition for her notable role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars films from 1977 to 1983, and reprised this role in subsequent sequels. Fisher was highly regarded for her other film credits that include Shampoo, The Blues Brothers, and When Harry Met Sally, among others. Not limited to acting, she authored several semi-autobiographical novels and worked on many screenplays as a script doctor. Besides her successful career in entertainment, Fisher was the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds. She openly spoke about her personal experiences with bipolar disorder and drug addiction. Fisher passed away on December 27, 2016, at age 60 after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.
Fisher carved out a niche for herself in Hollywood not only as a talented actress but also as a keen-eyed script doctor. She was prolific in tightening the scripts for numerous films, many of which are from the Star Wars franchise. Fisher was posthumously made a Disney Legend in 2017 and was awarded a posthumous Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album the following year. In 2023, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, posthumously. She wrote her semi-autobiographical novels, including Postcards from the Edge, and was candid about her struggles with bipolar disorder and addiction.
