Christian Robinson is an American illustrator and animator whose work has reshaped contemporary children’s picture books. Born on August 2 1986 in Los Angeles, California, he was raised by his grandmother in a modest one‑bedroom home shared by six people, an upbringing that instilled in him a deep empathy for ordinary moments and diverse families. Robinson pursued formal training at the California Institute of the Arts, where he honed his skills in animation before transitioning to picture‑book illustration after a pivotal mentorship with Ben Butcher. He spent seven formative years in San Francisco, collaborating with studios such as Pixar Animation Studios and The Sesame Street Workshop, before establishing his base in Sacramento, California, where he continues to create vibrant, collage‑rich images that celebrate everyday life. His early career in animation endowed him with a keen sense of motion and character, elements that now animate the pages of his books, inviting young readers to explore color, texture, and narrative through a playful visual language.
