Florence Kasumba is a globally acclaimed Ugandan-born German actress renowned for her diverse acting skills in multiple languages. Born on 26 October 1976 in Kampala, Uganda, she moved to Essen, Germany during her childhood where she received her elementary and high school education. A trained performing artist, Kasumba obtained her degree in acting, singing, and dancing from Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Tilburg, the Netherlands. She is polyglot with fluency in German, English, and Dutch and is presently based in Berlin, Germany. Her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ayo in Captain America: Civil War (2016), left a lasting impression despite her brief scene, earning her widespread praise. Her reprisal of the character, in the cult movie Black Panther, brought her international recognition. Not confining to one genre, Kasumba showcased her versatile talent across multiple platforms from the NBC television series Emerald City where she portrayed the Wicked Witch of the East, to providing her voice for the animated remake, The Lion King (2019). In addition to her extensive film and TV credentials, she also boasts an impressive theater background with significant roles in numerous musicals like Chicago, The Lion King, Cats, West Side Story, Evita, and Beauty and the Beast, establishing her as a multi-faceted artist.
