Florence Pugh (born 3 January 1996) is an English actress universally acclaimed for her portrayals of poised, complicated and outspoken female characters. Known for her brilliant performances, she has been nominated for both an Academy Award and two BAFTA Awards. Her career began with her acting debut in the drama The Falling (2014), which brought her significant critical praise. Pugh quickly rose to stardom with standout roles in the independent drama Lady Macbeth (2016) and the miniseries The Little Drummer Girl (2018). Her international breakthrough came in 2019 with commendable portrayals in Fighting with My Family, the chilling Midsommar, and Little Women (for the latter she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress). Subsequent credentials include playing Yelena Belova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with Black Widow (2021), voicing characters in Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022), and roles in Oppenheimer (2023) and Dune: Part Two (2024). Pugh was born and raised in Oxford, England by her parents, dancer Deborah and restaurateur Clinton Pugh, along with her three siblings. She was privately educated at Wychwood School and St Edward's School, Oxford, a background that helped hone her acting skills from an early age.
