Gloria Reuben

Gloria Elizabeth Reuben (born June 9, 1964) is a multi-talented Canadian-American actress, producer, and singer. She gained fame for her role as Jeanie Boulet on ER, a medical drama series. Her outstanding performance, which ran from 1995 to 1999 and again in 2008, earned her two Emmy award nominations. Reuben also achieved recognition for her role as Elizabeth Keckley in Steven Spielberg's film Lincoln in 2012. Besides ER and Lincoln, Reuben featured in other notable films like Timecop, Nick of Time, Admission, and Reasonable Doubt. Other notable TV appearances include Mr. Robot, City on a Hill and Cloak & Dagger. Reuben’s early life and education influenced her career significantly. She was born in Toronto to Jamaican-born parents. She lost her father at a young age and later detailed her experience with the deaths of her family members in her memoir, My Brothers' Keeper. Reuben's exposure to music and acting started in her formative years; she studied music technique and theory, ballet, and jazz at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She started her career as a model and in TV ads before venturing into acting. Not only is Reuben talented on-screen, but her stage acting is also commendable. She has starred in notable off-Broadway productions and is also an accomplished jazz singer and pianist. Reuben is vocal about issues such as HIV/AIDS awareness, global warming, nature conservation, and human rights. She holds leadership positions in environmental organizations including the Waterkeeper Alliance and The Climate Reality Project.
