Her acting journey commenced from theater, making a debut on Broadway in the musical comedy, 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee' (2007). Lee made her television debut in 2006, and since then, she has graced numerous TV shows such as the HBO comedy-drama series 'High Maintenance', Showtime's dark comedy series 'Nurse Jackie', Lena Dunham's HBO series 'Girls', and the Fox mystery science-fiction series 'Wayward Pines'. She also featured in films like 'Sisters' (2015) and 'Money Monster'.

Lee gained significant prominence for striking roles in the Netflix comedy-drama series 'Russian Doll' and 'The Morning Show' on Apple TV+. Her role in 'The Morning Show' earned her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Lee gained critical acclaim for her starring role in the 2023 Celine Song–directed romantic film 'Past Lives', winning the Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Film Award for Best Actress.
