Joanne Gignilliat Trimmier Woodward, born February 27, 1930, is a legendary American actress. Woodward is recognized for her nuanced and complex portrayal of women on screen. Her film career transcends decades, making her breakthrough in the 1950s and earning prestigious accolades such as an Academy Award, three Primetime Emmy Awards, a British Academy Film Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She holds the distinction of being the oldest living winner of the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Perhaps best known for her performance as a woman with dissociative identity disorder in The Three Faces of Eve (1957), for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Award. Woodward worked extensively with her late spouse, Paul Newman, either as a co-star or as an actor in films either directed or produced by him. In 1990, Woodward earned a bachelor's degree from Sarah Lawrence College at age 60, graduating alongside her daughter Clea. Woodward was an active actress from 1950 to 2013. Born in Thomasville, Georgia, she lived in several towns throughout the southern US during her early life, before launching her career in New York City.
