John Getz

John William Getz is an esteemed American character actor known for his dynamic performances on stage, television, and film. Born and raised in Davenport, Iowa, Getz first dipped his toes into acting while attending the University of Iowa, where he was also one of the founding members of the Center for New Performing Arts. His passion drove him to drop out of college and join the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.

Initiated his career on the small screen, he got his break with a role in a made-for-television horror film Killer Bees in 1974. Unafraid to explore diverse characters, John's filmography transcends genres, from comedy-drama, The Happy Hooker (1975), to the critically acclaimed Coen Brothers' neo-noir thriller Blood Simple (1984). In Blood Simple, he played the complex character of a lover of a married woman which further established his credibility as an actor. He further stretched his versatility by portraying characters in unsuccessful police dramas, soap operas, and suspense thrillers. His notable roles include Stathis Borans, a science magazine editor in The Fly (1986) and The Fly II (1989), and Marine Corps Major in Born on the Fourth of July (1989). His resolute performance as the unpleasant boyfriend of professional women in Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead and Curly Sue won him accolades.

John's contribution to the entertainment industry continues to the contemporary era, with his works in David Fincher's films Zodiac (2007), and The Social Network (2010). Throughout his career, he has also guest-starred in numerous acclaimed television series, including Barney Miller, Three's Company, How I Met Your Mother, and Prison Break. He even had recurring roles in popular series like Homeland, Timeless, and Bosch.
