Lucy Alexis Liu is an American actress, born in New York City on December 2, 1968, to Chinese immigrant parents. She is best known for her roles in television series like Ally McBeal (1998–2002) and Elementary (2012–2019). Her film credits are both abundant and diverse, starring in films such as Charlie's Angels, Kill Bill: Volume 1, and Shanghai Noon. Besides acting, Liu has a successful voice-acting career, lending her voice to the Kung Fu Panda franchise, Disney's Tinker Bell series, and many more.

Liu, apart from being an actress, is also a painter, photographer and collage artist, having showcased her mixed media creations in various gallery shows. Liu's varied work in the field of arts was recognized when she was named Harvard's 2016 Artist of the Year. Recently, she starred as Kalypso in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and directed the Disney show American Born Chinese. Lucy has a son, Rockwell, born in 2015 via gestational surrogate and she has chosen to raise him as a single parent.
