Maggie Cheung Man-yuk, born on 20 September 1964, is a former Hong Kong actress. She started her career after becoming second at the 1983's Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Raised between Hong Kong and Britain, she achieved considerable success from the late 80s to the early 2000s, with her final role in 2004. Cheung rarely makes public appearances, mostly for fashion events and award ceremonies. Throughout her career, Cheung won various awards for her acting both locally and internationally. These include 5 times Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actress, and holding the record for most wins in the category. She also has the most wins for the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actress in Taiwan. Cheung's most acclaimed performances include As Tears Go By, Center Stage, Green Snake, Irma Vep, Comrades: Almost a Love Story, The Soong Sisters, Hero and Clean. Cheung was born in Hong Kong to Shanghainese parents and later moved to the UK when she was eight. She returned to Hong Kong at age 18 in 1982. She entered the Miss Hong Kong pageant in 1983 and won the first runner-up and Miss Photogenic award. She received a contract with TVB after two years as a TV presenter. Cheung speaks fluently in Cantonese, Mandarin, and Shanghainese thanks to her upbringing. In addition to her notable performances, she also served as a jury member in multiple international Film Festivals throughout her career.
