**Martin Henry Balsam** (1919-1996) was a critically acclaimed American actor, holding a prolific career in character roles across film, theatre, and television. An early member of the Actor's Studio, he started his career on the New York stage, where he garnered a Tony award for Best Actor for his performance in Robert Anderson's 'You Know I Can't Hear You When the Water's Running'. He further cemented his legacy by winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for 'A Thousand Clowns'. Known for roles in successful films such as '12 Angry Men', 'Psycho', 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', and 'All the President's Men,' Balsam showcased diversified talents in the entertainment world. He also starred in popular TV series such as 'Dr. Kildare' and 'Archie Bunker's Place.' Beyond Hollywood, he carved a niche in Italian films, starring in numerous films throughout the '70s. His talents beamed across continents, earning him a BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, and Emmy Award nominations. Balsam was married thrice and fathered an actress, Talia Balsam. He passed away while on vacation in Rome, Italy. Having left an indelible mark on the world of acting, Balsam's contribution to cinema remains appreciated by generations of film enthusiasts.
