Vera Mindy Chokalingam, known professionally as Mindy Kaling, is an American actress, screenwriter, and producer celebrated for her notable work in television. She has received many accolades, including two Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Tony Award, and six Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Initially recognized for her portrayal of Kelly Kapoor in the NBC sitcom The Office, she also made significant contributions as a writer. Nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for her outstanding writing in the comedy series, her fame increased with her creation, production, and starring role in the Fox/Hulu sitcom, The Mindy Project. Her other TV shows include Champions, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Never Have I Ever, and The Sex Lives of College Girls. Kaling's array of voice and live action roles span numerous films, and she has authored two memoirs which hit The New York Times Best Seller list. In 2012, Kaling commenced the production company Kaling International. Kaling's comedy is informed by her incredible career and personal life, her childhood as the child of immigrants, her exploration of the comedy scene in her twenties, and her professional successes and challenges making her an influential force in Hollywood.
