What's After the Movie
Paula Beer (German: [ˈpaʊla ˈbeːɐ̯]; born 23 February 1995 in Mainz) is a German actress who has carved out a name for herself in both German and international cinema. Beer first burst onto the scene as a teenager with her starring role in Chris Kraus' 2010 film Poll. This early glimpse of her raw talent fascinated audiences and critics alike. Her true breakthrough, however, came in 2016 when she starred in François Ozon's Frantz. This marked a turning point in her career, establishing her as a force to be reckoned with in the world of cinema. Her performance in this film was critically acclaimed, earning her the much-coveted Marcello Mastroianni Award for best young performer at the 73rd Venice International Film Festival. This prestigious award, named after one of Italy's greatest actors, is given to emerging actors or actresses in recognition of outstanding performances. Beer's accolades did not stop there. She won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival for her performance as Undine Wibeau in the film Undine, directed by Christian Petzold. This performance further cemented her place among the acting elite.
