Roger Allam

Roger William Allam, born on 26 October 1953, is an esteemed British actor proficient across stage, film, television and radio. His prolific career includes performances as Inspector Javert in the original London production of the stage musical Les Misérables, officers in Cabin Pressure radio series, and DCI Fred Thursday in the TV series Endeavour. He has proudly taken up roles as Illyrio Mopatis in Game of Thrones, as Royalton in Speed Racer, as Lewis Prothero in V for Vendetta and as Peter Mannion MP in The Thick Of It. Allam's talents have earned him six nominations for the Laurence Olivier Award, three of which he has won. Allam hails from Bow, London, England, where he was educated at Christ's Hospital and Manchester University. His father served as rector at St Mary Woolnoth. His acting career began with performances for the Royal Shakespeare Company, moving on to various roles in theatre, radio, film and television. He played Adolf Hitler at the Royal National Theatre, appeared in many radio dramas for the BBC, and co-starred with Gillian Anderson in Michael Weller's romantic comedy. Allam received the Olivier Award for Best Actor for his performance in Shakespeare's Globe production of Henry IV, Part 1 and Part 2. Allam also lends his voice to the audiobook narration, including works by Ian McEwan and the Dalai Lama.
