Ryan Potter

Ryan Potter (born Ryan Kenichi Hagimoto on September 12, 1995) is an American actor, martial artist and voice performer best known for bridging live‑action teen comedy with high‑profile animated superhero work. Raised initially in Portland, Oregon before his family moved to Tokyo, Potter spent his early childhood immersed in Japanese language and culture, training in White Tiger kung fu from the age of eight and developing a lifelong passion for martial arts that would later inform his on‑screen physicality. After returning to the United States just before his seventh birthday, he lived with his single mother, Jordanna Alex Potter‑Lew, and eventually adopted her maiden name, a decision that symbolized his bicultural identity and his commitment to his mother’s heritage. His break came at thirteen when a flyer in his kung fu class advertised a Nickelodeon casting call for a teen‑centered martial‑arts series; Potter auditioned and secured the lead role of Mike Fukanaga in Supah Ninjas (2011‑2013), launching a rapid ascent that included magazine features, network appearances and a recurring part on Fred: The Show. Transitioning to voice work, he embodied Hiro Hamada in Disney’s critically acclaimed Big Hero 6 (2014) and continued the role across the subsequent television series and Disney+ short Baymax! (2022), lending his performance to the award‑winning franchise and even appearing in Kingdom Hearts III. More recently, Potter portrayed Gar Logan / Beast Boy on the DC Universe/HBO Max series Titans (2018‑2023), demonstrating his versatility in both dramatic and comedic contexts. Outside of acting, he founded the charity Toy Box of Hope in 2011, championing holiday drives for children in homeless shelters, and has spoken publicly on LGBTQ+ equality, using his platform to advocate against bullying and for inclusive social change.
