Sally Cecilia Hawkins, born April 27, 1976, is a versatile English actress who started her acting career on stage before transitioning into film. She is well-known for her impressive performances that have earned her many prestigious awards, including a Golden Globe Award, two Academy Award nominations, and two British Academy Film Award nominations. After graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Hawkins initiated her career in Romeo & Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Her breakthrough came in 2002 with Mike Leigh's 'All or Nothing', and she continued earning accolades for her work in 'Happy-Go-Lucky', 'Cassandra's Dream', 'Blue Jasmine', 'Made in Dagenham', 'Paddington', 'Maudie', 'Paddington 2', and 'The Shape of Water'.
In addition to her film career, Hawkins has also performed in stage productions with the Royal Court Theatre in London, and made her Broadway debut in 2010 with 'Mrs. Warren's Profession'. In 2012, she played a key role in 'Constellations', which moved from the Royal Court Theatre to the Duke of York's Theatre in the West End. Not limiting her talent to just film and stage, she appeared in the BBC adaptations of 'Tipping the Velvet' and 'Fingersmith', and in ITV's adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Persuasion'. Hawkins was born in Dulwich, London to parents Jacqui Hawkins and Colin Hawkins, authors and illustrators of children's books. She developed her interest in acting at the age of three, attended James Allen's Girls' School in Dulwich, and graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1998. She suffers from lupus and dyslexia.
