Tig Notaro

Mathilde O'Callaghan "Tig" Notaro (born March 24, 1971) is widely recognized for her impact in the world of comedy, radio, writing, and acting, and specifically recognized for her idiosyncratic deadpan style. Notaro has enjoyed critical acclaim, with her album Live nominated in 2014 for the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. Her illustrious career has seen her nominated for awards at prestigious ceremonies, such as the Primetime Emmy Awards. Notaro was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and attended school there before moving to Texas. She was named "Tig" by her brother, a nickname that stuck. Notaro’s career began in earnest when she moved to Denver, working in the music industry and eventually transitioning to stand-up comedy. After moving to Los Angeles, her career took off as she began to be featured in prominent comedic circles, culminating in a successful podcast run from 2011 to 2015. In 2011, she received critical praise for her debut stand-up album, Good One, and followed this success up with another album, Live, in 2012. Despite facing serious health challenges, including a cancer diagnosis, Notaro has remained a prevalent figure in the comedy scene. She has written and starred in various TV series, books, and documentaries, and her stand-up comedy shows are must-sees, earning her celebrity fans from across the entertainment industry. Away from the stage, Notaro married Stephanie Allynne in 2015, and they have two sons together. After being diagnosed with cancer, Notaro underwent a double mastectomy and has been open about her experience, even incorporating her ordeal into her comedy. Notaro has seen her work transform and shift post-diagnosis, noting a marked shift towards more personal comedy. In her personal life, she adopted a vegan diet in acknowledgement of the beneficial effects on her health. She has also produced and released several stand-up albums, specials, videos, singles, an audiobook, and compilations. Currently, she continues to create comedic content for television and film.
