Andrzej Bartkowiak

Andrzej Bartkowiak, a Polish cinematographer and film director based in the United States, gained recognition in the 1980's for his laudable synergy with the acclaimed director Sidney Lumet, through which he contributed to 11 of Lumet's projects between the years 1981 and 1993. Further advancing his professional prominence, Andrzej took on the role of a director of action films, including the illustrious Jet Li productions Romeo Must Die (2000) and Cradle 2 the Grave (2003), and video game adaptations Doom (2005) and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009).

Bartkowiak was born and raised in Łódź, a history-rich city in Central Poland, and furthered his studies at the highly regarded Łódź Film School during the early 70's. Following his graduation, he migrated to the United States, establishing a successful professional trajectory in New York City by working on numerous television commercials and industrial films for high-profile clients such as IBM, Xerox, American Express, and Toyota. In addition to these achievements, his professional journey also featured several years of fruitful work in Italy. Bartkowiak proved his resourcefulness as a cinematographer with his debut on the independent feature 'Deadly Hero' in 1975.
