Brett Ratner (born March 28, 1969) is a known American film director and producer. He directed loved films such as Rush Hour, The Family Man, Red Dragon, X-Men: The Last Stand, Tower Heist, and Hercules. Beyond directing, he's produced several films, including the Horrible Bosses series, and served as executive producer on projects like The Revenant, War Dogs, and the TV series Prison Break. Ratner’s journey in directing started with music videos in the 1990s and he directed his first motion picture, Money Talks, in 1997. The films Ratner has directed have collectively earned over $2 billion at the global box office. Ratner is the co-founder of RatPac Entertainment, a film production company that partnered with Dune Entertainment for a co-producing deal with Warner Bros., encompassing 75 films. RatPac has co-financed 81 theatrically released motion pictures that have garnered 59 Academy Award nominations and won 25. Ratner got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017.
In his early life, Ratner was born and raised in Miami Beach, Florida, in a middle-class Jewish family. His mother immigrated from Cuba to the U.S. in the 1960s and his biological father was homeless, which led to Ratner's involvement with nonprofit organization Chrysalis. Ratner graduated from Miami Beach Senior High School and got his college education from New York University. He was inspired to enter the world of film by Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull. He started directing music videos in the 1990s and had his movie debut with Money Talks in 1997. He achieved popularity with Rush Hour in 1998 and has continued to produce and direct several successful films. However, Ratner's career was hit by multiple allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017 which led to him emigrating to Israel in 2023.
