Plot Summary

Three years after the explosive events of Rush Hour 2, Ambassador Solon Han (Tzi Ma) takes center stage at the World Criminal Court in Los Angeles, flanked by his trusted bodyguard, Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan). As Han begins to reveal crucial information about the elusive Shy Shen, a figure of great significance to the Chinese underworld, chaos erupts when an assassin strikes, leaving a trail of destruction. Lee hotly pursues the shooter, only to discover that it’s none other than his childhood Japanese foster brother, Kenji (Hiroyuki Sanada), whose sudden appearance sends shockwaves through the scene.

Just as Kenji makes his escape, LAPD Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) arrives on the scene, responding to a distress call over the police radio. Despite Han’s narrow brush with death, Lee and Carter pledge to unravel the mystery behind the assassination attempt, driven by their promise to protect Han’s daughter, Soo Yung (Zhang Jingchu).

Their investigation leads them to a local Kung Fu studio, where they uncover a cryptic message left for Lee by Han. However, their search is thwarted when they learn that the Triads have stolen Soo Yung’s belongings. Undeterred, the duo returns to the hospital, intercepting a group of French-speaking Chinese assassins before they can strike again.

With the help of Sister Agnes (Dana Ivey), a nun with a flair for languages, Lee and Carter extract crucial information from one of their captives, leading them to an address and the name “Genevieve.” In a bid to safeguard Soo Yung’s safety, they place her under the protection of French Ambassador Varden Reynard (Max Von Sydow) at the French Embassy.

However, when Reynard and Soo Yung narrowly escape a deadly car bomb attack, Lee and Carter realize that their investigation has led them across the Atlantic to Paris. As they delve deeper into the mystery, they uncover a trail of clues that lead them to an unlikely destination: an underground titty bar in the City of Love.

Their arrival is met with skepticism by Commissaire Revi (Roman Polanski), a Parisian official with a penchant for using books as bludgeons. Undeterred, Lee and Carter recruit George (Yvan Attal), an anti-American taxi driver with a bone to pick against the United States, to drive them to the heart of the Triad operation. With their trusty taxi driver at the wheel, they’re ready to take on the criminal underworld in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse.

As fate would have it, Carter’s chance encounter with the enigmatic Geneviève (Noémie Lenoir) at a blackjack table in Paris becomes a turning point in his tumultuous journey. Meanwhile, Lee finds himself unwittingly ensnared by the cunning Jasmine (Youki Kudoh), who attempts to manipulate him into revealing crucial information about Shy Shen. However, Carter’s timely intervention saves Lee from certain doom, and they both manage to escape the clutches of Kenji’s ruthless henchmen with the help of George’s daredevil driving skills.

The duo takes refuge in a Parisian hotel, where Lee confides in Carter about his complicated past with Kenji, revealing that they grew up together at an orphanage in China. However, their bond was tested by fate, as Lee got adopted and built a life, while Kenji was left behind to fend for himself on the streets. A disillusioned Carter departs, only to recompose himself after spotting Geneviève and deciding to follow her.

As events unfold, Reynard drops a bombshell, revealing that Shy Shen is not a person but rather a list of three Triad leaders, known as the dragon heads. Geneviève, it turns out, is Han’s informant with access to this coveted list, which has been tattooed on the back of her head. This ancient tradition dictates that the woman carrying the list will be beheaded once it has been circulated in 35 provinces.

As Lee and Carter work together to unravel the mystery, they find themselves pursued by Jasmine, who is determined to eliminate Geneviève. The trio takes refuge at George’s home, where Geneviève shares her dire predicament with Lee and Carter. They soon discover that Reynard was working with the Triads all along, as he orders his men to kill Geneviève.

Just as things seem to be spiraling out of control, Kenji contacts Lee, informing him that he has captured Soo Yung and demanding that he hand over Geneviève. The stakes have never been higher, and Carter, Lee, and Geneviève must navigate this treacherous landscape if they hope to survive and uncover the truth about Shy Shen.

As Lee (character name) arrives at the iconic Eiffel Tower, a setting where romance and danger converge, he is met with an unexpected twist: Carter, disguised as Geneviève (with a wig), is poised to orchestrate a pivotal exchange. The air is thick with tension as Kenji emerges, challenging Lee to a thrilling sword fight that culminates in a dramatic tumble into the safety net below. As the two combatants struggle to gain the upper hand, Kenji’s sword slices through the net, leaving Lee no choice but to attempt a daring rescue - only to be thwarted by Kenji’s sudden release of his grip, sending him plummeting to his death.

Meanwhile, Carter springs into action, using her cunning and agility to save Soo Yung (character name), who is precariously perched on the ledge at the Eiffel Tower’s summit. In a separate confrontation, Carter proves herself to be a formidable foe as she takes down Jasmine, whose fate ultimately seals her own demise after becoming entangled in an elevator wheel.

Following their narrow escape from the remaining Triad members, Carter and Lee are confronted by Reynard, who brandishes his threats with reckless abandon, vowing to slaughter Geneviève (Carter in disguise) and frame them for her murder. However, George intervenes just in time, delivering a decisive blow that silences Reynard forever. As the authorities close in, Revi attempts to steal the spotlight by claiming credit for Lee and Carter’s heroic endeavors; however, they swiftly dispatch him with a well-placed knockout punch, allowing them to bask in the glory of their hard-won triumph. With victory secured, the duo celebrates with an impromptu dance routine, savoring the sweet taste of success amidst the City of Love’s iconic backdrop.
