Dan Gilroy

Daniel Christopher Gilroy, known as Dan Gilroy, was born on June 24, 1959. Gilroy is a distinguished American screenwriter and film director, renowned for his work on highly-acclaimed films such as 'Nightcrawler' in 2014. His screenplay for 'Nightcrawler' earned him a Best Screenplay award at the 30th Independent Spirit Awards as well as a nomination for Best Original Screenplay at the 87th Academy Awards. Gilroy's writing portfolio is extensive and eclectic, including his work on films such as 'Freejack' (1992), 'Two for the Money' (2005), 'The Fall' (2006), 'Real Steel' (2011), and 'The Bourne Legacy' (2012)—the last of which was a collaborative effort with his brother Tony Gilroy. Gilroy's wife, Rene Russo, has been a frequent collaborator in his projects since the two met in 1992 and later married in the same year. Gilroy had made his directorial debut with the thriller 'Nightcrawler' (2014), which starred Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, and Riz Ahmed, earning him acclaim. Some of his more recent work includes co-writing Jordan Vogt-Roberts's 2017 adventure 'Kong: Skull Island', and directing the legal drama 'Roman J. Israel, Esq.' the same year, starring Denzel Washington. Outside of his film career, Gilroy is known for family connections to the industry, including his brother, Tony Gilroy, who is a screenwriter and director, and his twin brother, John Gilroy, a film editor.
