Evgeny Afineevsky

Evgeny Mikhailovich Afineevsky is an eminently regarded Israeli-American film director, producer, and cinematographer. Born on October 21, 1972, in Kazan, Tatar ASSR, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union, he acquired Israeli citizenship in the early 1990s and served in the Israeli Defence Forces. Venturing into the film industry, he shifted base to the United States through connections to Menahem Golan, and has lived there since 1999. He began his filmmaking career in his teenage years, winning the First Prize for Best Documentary in Kazan. Over the years, he produced more than 30 musicals including the renowned 'Mozart Konzerte' with the Prague National Opera Orchestra and directed TV series such as 'Days of Love.' He is also remembered for his incredible documentary projects including the gripping movies 'Winter on Fire', which focuses on Ukraine's struggle for freedom, and 'Cries from Syria'. His exceptional work with 'Winter on Fire' earned him an Academy Award nomination and Emmy nominations. He continued documenting revolutions and conflicts with 'Freedom on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom' released in 2022. His documentary 'Francesco,' featuring Pope Francis, made headlines worldwide, especially for the comments on homosexuality and the Catholic Church.
