James McTeigue (born 29 December 1967) is an accomplished Australian film and television director who started his career in the late 1980s. Initially, he worked as a production runner or assistant in small Australian films before climbing the ladder to become an assistant director for multiple productions. Notably, he was the second assistant director for the big budget film, Street Fighter, and the second assistant director for the WWII film, Paradise Road. In 1999, he received the opportunity to become the first assistant director for the groundbreaking film, The Matrix, shifting his career’s momentum.
James made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film V for Vendetta in 2005. Subsequently, he collaborated with the Wachowskis four more times as director on projects including The Invasion, Ninja Assassin, and Sense8, and as producer for The Matrix Resurrections. McTeigue's list of directorial projects also includes popular movies like The Raven (2012) and the Netflix science fiction drama series, Sense8. His passion for the cinematic arts has led to a continually successful career with remarkable contributions to Hollywood and beyond, fostering a strong partnership with the Wachowskis. Despite rumors of involvement in a Superman film series reboot, Warner Bros chose Zack Snyder for the project. However, McTeigue's career continues to be vibrant, serving as one of the producers for The Matrix Resurrections in 2021.
