Jonathan Glazer

**Jonathan Glazer** (born 26 March 1965) is a distinguished English film director and screenwriter. A product of Nottingham Trent University, Glazer started his career in theatre before making his foray into the realm of film. He is prolific for directing critically acclaimed features such as Sexy Beast (2000), Birth (2004), Under the Skin (2013), and The Zone of Interest (2023). He accepted the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film on behalf of the United Kingdom for The Zone of Interest. The core aspects of Glazer's work revolve around depictions of flawed and desperate characters, themes such as alienation, loneliness, individualism and pervasively bold visual style. His contributions have earned him six BAFTA Awards and two Academy Award nominations. Glazer was celebrated with the Grand Prix and the FIPRESCI Prize at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival for his historical drama The Zone of Interest. In addition to his work in film, Glazer has directed music videos for renowned acts like Radiohead, Massive Attack, Richard Ashcroft and Jamiroquai, receiving nominations for the MTV Video Music Award for Best Direction. He has also lent his creative prowess to commercials for brands including Kodak, Sony, Nike, Barclays and Alexander McQueen. Born on 26 March 1965 in London, England, Glazer is of Ashkenazi Jewish descent. His ancestors were Ukrainian Jews and Bessarabian Jews. After obtaining a BA from Nottingham Trent University, Glazer began his career directing theatre and crafting film and television trailers.
