Liza Johnson, born on December 13, 1970, is an acclaimed American film director, producer, and writer, internationally recognized for her narrative shorts and experimental videos. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, she embarked on her educational journey at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. There she graduated with a B.A. in Visual Arts in 1992, before acquiring her MFA from the University of California, San Diego, in 1995. Throughout her career, Johnson has screened her works extensively in Berlin, Rotterdam, and many other international festivals and fine arts venues. Her unique and captivating video installations have been exhibited in various esteemed locations such as the Artists Space in New York, the ICA in Philadelphia, Cineboords in Rotterdam, and Mass MoCA and WCMA in Massachusetts. She has also worked as a curator for several museum exhibitions and festival programs. Her portfolio extends beyond short films, featuring five feature films, including 'Return' (2011), 'Hateship, Loveship' (2013), 'Elvis & Nixon' (2016), and the critically discussed 'Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie' (2024).
