McG

Joseph McGinty Nichol, known professionally as McG, is an American director, producer, and the owner of a production company, Wonderland Sound and Vision, founded in 2001. He started his career in the music industry, directing music videos, and producing various albums. His debut theatrically released narrative feature, Charlie's Angels, had the highest-grossing opening weekend for a directorial debut at the time. Following this, he directed movies including Terminator Salvation, This Means War, and The Babysitter. In television, McG co-created Fastlane with John McNamara and executive produced The O.C., Supernatural, and Chuck.

Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, McG grew up in Newport Beach, California, with the nickname 'McG' to avoid confusion with his uncle and grandfather also named Joe. He initially wanted to become a band's lead singer but ended up behind the scenes as a producer and marketer for the band. McG graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from UC Irvine and later formed a record label known as G Recordings in 1993. He contributed significantly to the success of the band Sugar Ray and his work in the music industry eventually led him to the television commercial business and then into directing films - a journey that portrays him as a dynamic and multi-talented personality in Hollywood.
