Nash Edgerton

Nash Edgerton (born 19 January 1973) is an Australian film director, stunt performer and actor, widely respected for his versatility across Hollywood blockbusters and independent Australian cinema. Growing up in the Sydney suburbs of Blacktown and Dural, he is the son of Marianne (van Dort), a Dutch‑born homemaker, and Michael Edgerton, a solicitor and property developer, and the older brother of acclaimed actor Joel Edgerton. From an early age he gravitated toward the kinetic world of stunts, quickly establishing himself as a reliable double for high‑profile talent such as Ewan McGregor in the Star Wars prequels, and contributing to the physical storytelling of The Matrix trilogy, Superman Returns and The Thin Red Line. His hands‑on experience behind the camera evolved into a directing career that began with striking short‑form work—most notably the darkly comic “Spider,” “Bear,” and “Shark” series—before moving to feature‑length with the neo‑noir thriller The Square (2008). As a director he has also crafted music videos for icons like Bob Dylan, and helmed the crime‑drama Gringo (2018). From 2018 to 2021, Edgerton directed every episode of the acclaimed Australian series Mr Inbetween, demonstrating his deftness in both action choreography and narrative pacing.

Beyond his professional achievements, Edgerton’s personal life intertwines with his creative world. He began a relationship with Italian‑Australian actress Carla Ruffino in 2011, marrying her on 1 April 2014, and together they have a daughter born in 2015, while he also embraces his role as stepfather to Ruffino’s daughter, Chika Yasumura, who appeared in Mr Inbetween. Known for his low‑key demeanor and collaborative spirit, Edgerton continues to balance stunt coordination on major productions—such as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Invisible Man—with directorial projects that push the boundaries of Australian genre filmmaking.
