What's After the Movie
Patricia Lea Jenkins, better known as Patty Jenkins, is an acclaimed American film director, screenwriter, and producer. She first gained notable recognition for directing the feature film Monster (2003), which earned her the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature and the Franklin J. Schaffner Award of the American Film Institute (AFI). Jenkins expanded her repertoire by directing TV shows like Arrested Development and Entourage, and for the pilot episode of The Killing (2011), she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination and the Directors Guild of America award for Best Directing in a Drama Series. Also, she held the seventh place for Time's Person of the Year in 2017. Her most high-profile projects include Wonder Woman (2017), and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), breaking new ground for female directors in the superhero genre and boasting immense commercial success. Jenkins was born in Victorville, California, and spent her early years moving frequently due to her father's military service that took the family from Thailand to Germany, and eventually settling in Lawrence, Kansas. This extensive early-life experience has, inarguably, enriched her storytelling potential and cultural sensitivity expressed in her works. Jenkins has an undergraduate degree from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art and received her master's degree from the American Film Institute's AFI Conservatory.
