Tomas Alfredson

What's After the Movie

Tomas Alfredson

Hans Christian Tomas Alfredson, born on 1st April 1965, is a renowned Swedish film director known internationally for his work in the 2008 vampire film Let the Right One In and the 2011 espionage film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. His cinematic style and storytelling abilities have won him the Guldbagge award for Best Direction twice; once for Four Shades of Brown in 2005 and then for Let the Right One In in 2008. Raised by the veteran director and actor Hans Alfredson and having Daniel Alfredson, another successful director, as his brother, Alfredson was sculpted for impeccable cinematic creation from an early age. He further honed his skills by working as an assistant at Svensk Filmindustri and securing active involvement in Swedish television. His talent also shone through the popular shows that he created, such as Ikas TV-kalas and Fort Boyard's Swedish adaptation. His directorial prowess propelled the Swedish comedy group Killinggänget to new heights, and his engagement with the group resulted in multiple noteworthy productions. Alfredson's transition to directing internationally acclaimed films looked seamless as he made quite an impression with his horror film adaptation Let the Right One In. Despite his initial reluctance to work in Hollywood, Alfredson was able to deliver another stunning piece, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. However, his film The Snowman, despite a high-profile star cast, failed to resonate with the audience and critics alike.
