As Kelly "Special K" Bennett (Kelly) navigates her dance training under Franco's tutelage in Venice, California, she becomes enamored with the raw energy and authenticity of street dancers Ozone and Turbo, introduced to her by friend Adam. The three form an unbreakable bond, leading them to create their own unique dance troupe. However, Franco's condescending views on breakdancing and his inappropriate advances on Kelly prompt her to sever ties with him.

Undeterred, Kelly ventures into the world of professional dance, only to face rejection at a high-stakes audition where she's dismissed by harsh directors. It's then that she stumbles upon a breakdancing event, where Ozone and Turbo are engaged in an intense battle against rivals Electro Rock. Adam's persistence convinces Ozone and Turbo to take Kelly under their wing, teaching her the intricacies of breakdancing.

As Kelly's skills improve, the trio defeats Electro Rock in a thrilling showdown. Emboldened by their success, they decide to enroll in a prestigious dance competition, where traditional styles reign supreme. To blend in with the competition, they don tuxedos, top hats, and white gloves, but just before the audition begins, they rip off their sleeves, revealing their true artistry. Initially taken aback by the trio's unorthodox style, the judges are eventually won over by their undeniable talent.

The troupe earns a standing ovation and takes home the top prize, catapulting them to stardom. As Kelly, Ozone, and Turbo bask in the glory of their newfound fame, they continue to dance professionally and give back to their community. In a mid-credits scene, the trio meets James, their agent, who enlightens them about the emergence of "the electric boogaloo," a phenomenon that will forever change the landscape of their art.
