Ha Sang-hyeon (Kang-ho Song) runs a modest hand laundry and volunteers at a nearby church, where his friend Dong-soo (Dong-won Kang) also works. Together, they sustain an illegal operation: Sang-hyeon occasionally snatches babies from the church’s baby box with Dong-soo to sell them on the adoption black market, weaving danger into every step of their shady business. The routine is kept quiet, and the pair rely on a network that blurs lines between salvation and crime.

So-young (Du-na Bae) is a sex worker who faces a broken future when she abandons her baby Woo-sung in front of the baby box, leaving him to die. But the path she hoped to escape collides with law and order when Detective Soo-jin (Ji-eun Lee)—who prosecutes brokers alongside her partner Lee—places Woo-sung in the nursery as part of an investigation into the trafficking ring. The case widens as the police link So-young to the murder of one of her clients, Woo-sung’s biological father, turning a desperate act into a crime with broader consequences.

So-young’s life is upended when she returns to the scene after abandoning the infant, and the tension intensifies as Dong-soo reveals the full plan and chooses to accompany Sang-hyeon on a road trip to interview Woo-sung’s potential adoptive parents. The first interested couple is deterred when So-young lashes out in a volatile moment, exposing the volatility behind the trade. In a troubling twist, brokers visit the nursery where Dong-soo was raised, revealing that he, too, was abandoned as a child, and a young resident named Hae-jin from that nursery ends up drawn into the brokers’ orbit, complicating loyalties and decisions.

Soo-jin and Lee stage a sting operation to corner the brokers, but word of the trap reaches the criminal network, forcing Soo-jin to consider using So-young’s murder charge as a lever to ensnare them all. When the dead man’s widow contacts So-young with a demand to hand over Woo-sung, she sets in motion a dangerous negotiation. The widow brings Tae-ho into the picture—a once-kid who rose into gangland, a man Sang-hyeon owes money to—creating a volatile alliance and a race to secure Woo-sung’s fate.

As the brokers close in on a suitable adoptive match, they identify the Yoon family as a viable option, but with a strict condition: Woo-sung cannot meet So-young ever again. On a ferris wheel, Dong-soo voices a moment of fragile hope, imagining that all of them could raise Woo-sung together as a found family. Yet So-young reveals she will be arrested for murder, which complicates any shared future. In a quiet cafe, Sang-hyeon crosses paths with his estranged daughter, who explicitly says her mother wanted no contact, a revelation that Soo-jin quietly eavesdrops on as the tension of the case tightens.

Soo-jin later urges So-young to surrender for accidental manslaughter in exchange for a three-year sentence and the possibility of seeing Woo-sung again, a plan Sang-hyeon and Dong-soo reconcile with for Woo-sung’s sake. Yet Tae-ho confronts Sang-hyeon, and in the meantime Dong-soo is arrested, and So-young surrenders herself. At a transit center, a news report reveals Tae-ho’s dead body and a cache of cash—an apparent accident that muddies the truth and keeps critical clues from surfacing.

Three years pass, and Soo-jin has adopted Woo-sung, a decision shaped by the complex fallout of illegality and longing. The Yoon family faces obstacles in the adoption process, yet Soo-jin continues to arrange visits for Woo-sung, keeping a thread of connection alive. She writes to So-young after the latter’s release, promising to coordinate a reunion with Woo-sung at a park, while Sang-hyeon remains unreachable. A young Hae-jin makes a last, hopeful bid to join the circle, but an orphanage bus takes him away, suggesting a different fate for him than the one he might have hoped for.

Now, years later, So-young works at a gas station and occasionally glances at a photograph of her found family. At the park, an unseen passenger rolls down the window of the hand laundry van, and So-young runs to meet Woo-sung. The van, bearing the same photo seen by So-young, pulls away, leaving a lingering sense of what might have been and what remains unresolved. The film lingers on the emotional weight of found families and the choices that bind people to each other, even when the past keeps pulling them back into the shadows.
