Madhukar “Madhu” Bhagla, portrayed by Ishaan Khattar, is a young college student from a modest background. He unexpectedly triumphs in a competitive eating contest and is awarded the prize by the enchanting Parthavi Singh, played by Janhvi Kapoor, a strong-willed, affluent girl from a political family, who is studying at the same college. A moment of serendipity occurs when Madhu’s friend Purshottam, portrayed by Shridhar Watsar, stumbles upon Parthavi bathing in a serene lake and informs Madhu about her.
Captivated by her beauty, Madhu attempts to catch her attention, though he suffers a minor injury in the process. Despite their admiration for each other, both are oblivious to the budding feelings they share. Upon returning to his family’s café in their village, Madhu’s father warns him to keep his distance from Parthavi due to her affluent status and powerful family ties. Nevertheless, Parthavi, undeterred, observes Madhu watching her, leading them to confess their love and start secretly meeting.
Their relationship takes a passionate turn when Madhu requests a kiss, prompting Parthavi to challenge him to crash her brother’s birthday party. Amid the celebrations, they share a fervent kiss, but their bliss is short-lived as her family catches them. Parthavi’s father, the influential politician Ratan Singh, played by Ashutosh Rana, along with her brother, punishes Madhu and his companions, but the inspector advises caution until after the election results are announced due to Ratan’s heavy investments in the campaign.
After the elections conclude, Madhu and his friends find themselves wrongfully arrested due to allegations conjured by Parthavi’s father. In a heart-wrenching moment, Parthavi begs her father to free Madhu, even threatening to harm herself with a gun if he isn’t released. The gravity of her love prompts Madhu to rush to her side, prompting their escape together.
With law enforcement in pursuit, the young couple boards a train to Mumbai, where Madhu reaches out to his uncle, leading them to Nagpur. Following his uncle’s advice, they proceed to Kolkata, where they create a modest life together. Madhu learns Bengali and takes up work at a roadside restaurant, while Parthavi finds employment at a call center. On one of his visits to her office, Madhu surprises her with a new phone, only to be shattered by the sight of her appearing too cozy with her manager, leading him to suspect infidelity.
Heartbroken, Madhu returns home but tensions mount. An explosive argument ensues, resulting in Madhu losing his temper and striking Parthavi. As doubt creeps in about their hasty departure together, Parthavi vanishes briefly but is ultimately found by Madhu, prompting him to realize the depth of his love for her. In a heartfelt moment, he proposes, and they marry.
The couple’s joy soon turns as Parthavi becomes pregnant, and they welcome their son, Aditya “Adi” Bhagla, into the world. During a house blessing ceremony, Parthavi’s brother appears with gifts, signaling potential reconciliation with her family, but Madhu remains skeptical and urges her to stay back. However, Parthavi, swept away by excitement, leaves Adi with Madhu and ventures out for sweets. Tragically, their happiness is abruptly shattered when both Madhu and Adi are violently thrown from a balcony at the hands of her brother, leaving Parthavi in devastation as she watches her husband and son bleed profusely, their lives cruelly cut short.
