The story begins outside a cozy community church in Saint Augustine, Louisiana, where a woman enthusiastically encourages guests to enter as a wedding is about to commence. A few attendees remark on Liam’s presence on the radio, to which the woman agrees, but her priority is seeing him marry her daughter, Josie. Inside, Josie is busy preparing with her bridesmaids, and a couple of older Southern women savor the atmosphere from a couch. Josie’s brother checks on her readiness to walk down the aisle, and soon after, two groomsmen enter. While one of them assures Josie that she looks stunning, the other, Mason, takes the maid of honor aside for a private word. Josie’s anxiety mounts until her friend returns with a shocking revelation: Liam won’t show up.

Fast forward eight years to an aerial view of a bustling stadium in New Orleans, where the marquee boldly announces the “LIAM PAGE TOUR.” On stage, Liam wraps up a concert in front of a sea of ecstatic fans. After his last song, he exits backstage and casually expresses to his manager, Sam, a desire to meet a girl from the front row instead of attending the after-party. Sam insists he needs to handle the label reps first, but Liam brushes it off, requesting they send a girl and a gallon of vodka to his hotel room.

The following morning, upon waking up, Liam discovers a girl from the previous night serenading him with one of his hits. In a panic, he leaps from bed, hastily dresses, and dashes barefoot through the hotel as fans capture his frantic exit. At the concierge desk, he frantically queries for the nearest phone store, offering $10,000 to anyone who can fix his broken phone, a relic held together with duct tape. Finally, in the office, he retrieves a crucial message saved on the device - a voicemail from Josie.

Upon returning to his hotel, an irate Sam confronts Liam about abandoning his responsibilities, especially with footage of him going viral. After momentarily lounging on the couch, Liam’s attention is caught by a news report about Mason’s tragic death in a car crash, leaving him in shock. Later, as Sam pushes for them to reach the airport for their tour finale, Liam’s mood shifts, and he offers the driver $1,000 to escape the situation.

Liam finds himself outside the church from his past, where he overhears a eulogy for Mason. While grappling with his emotions, he runs into Josie and a little girl, who quickly disappear into the church. Josie’s brother visibly bristles at the sight of Liam. Following the ceremony, Josie approaches Liam and delivers a hard punch to his stomach, expressing her pent-up anger and hurt. As Liam doubles over, he encounters the preacher, introducing him as his father, Pastor Brian.

Staying under his father’s roof, the atmosphere is tense as bitterness brews over Liam’s eight-year absence. His father reminds him of his negligence, including the fact that he has a daughter. The truth hits hard when Liam learns that he missed experiencing his fatherhood and Josie’s struggles alone. Determined to reconnect, Liam decides to seek Billie, Josie’s daughter.

In an effort to forge a bond with Billie, he engages Josie in a conversation about how they both went to the same school. Billie, clever and perceptive, realizes connections between her and Liam and expresses her wish to know him better. After some back and forth with Josie, a tentative agreement is reached, allowing him to spend time with her daughter.

Throughout their interactions, moments of genuine connection blossom as Liam learns about Billie’s interests and talents. He continues to navigate his feelings for Josie while trying to mend their past. One evening, after sharing intimate confessions, the two realize their chemistry is undeniable. They share sweet laughter and, igniting an old flame, acceptance for their shared past and future blooms.

However, insecurities plague Liam as he faces the consequences of his prior choices. A traumatic episode occurs when Billie nearly chokes, sending Liam into a panic that he can’t shake off, reminiscent of his mother’s demise. Guilt washes over him as he grapples with feelings of inadequacy as a father, leading him into a dark spiral of self-doubt.

Desperate to escape his overwhelming emotions, Liam takes off, leaving a note for his father. It becomes clear that he feels unworthy of the love being offered to him. Yet, amidst the cacophony of regret, music draws him back. While performing in Berlin, he has an epiphany, realizing it’s time to return to Josie and Billie. He rushes to find a flight back to Louisiana, filled with urgency.

Once back, he risks it all to apologize, relaying his heartfelt message that he has listened to her saved voicemail daily for the past eight years. Their reunion culminates in a passionate embrace as Josie welcomes him back into her life with open arms, affirming his place in their family.

In closing scenes, the audience watches as Liam and Billie share the stage, performing a heartfelt duet, surrounded by friends and family who have rallied around them, signifying hope and reconciliation.
