Plot Summary

The narrative unfolds around Tae-gu, a formidable mobster who rejects an opportunity to switch allegiances with his arch-nemesis, the Bukseong gang, led by the cunning Chairman Doh. In a brutal retaliation, Tae-gu’s sister and niece are senselessly slaughtered, igniting a fierce desire for vengeance within him. With calculated ferocity, Tae-gu exacts revenge upon Chairman Doh and his cohorts before fleeing to the tranquil shores of Jeju Island. There, he encounters Jae-yeon, a terminally ill woman whose life is a poignant reminder of mortality’s fragility, and her enigmatic uncle, Kuto, an arms dealer shrouded in mystery.

Meanwhile, Tae-gu’s superior, Chairman Yang, concocts a plan to annihilate the remaining Bukseong gang lieutenants, aiming to eradicate the organization once and for all. However, this strategy falters without Tae-gu’s exceptional leadership and operational prowess, allowing Director Ma of the Bukseong gang to relentlessly pursue Tae-gu with merciless determination. Yang is eventually forced to betray his protégé, handing him over to the Bukseong gang in a desperate attempt to save his own life. Kuto meets a tragic demise during a high-stakes firefight against his buyers, leaving Tae-gu and Jae-yeon to go into hiding.

Tae-gu’s fate is sealed when Yang betrays him, subjecting him to gruesome torture at the hands of Director Ma’s men. In a shocking revelation, Ma exposes that Yang orchestrated the slaughter of Tae-gu’s sister and niece out of fear that Tae-gu would defect to the Bukseong gang, rendering Yang powerless. Incensed by this betrayal, Tae-gu launches a ferocious attack against Yang but ultimately falls victim to Ma’s henchmen, with the final blow delivered by Yang himself. In a poignant aftermath, Jae-yeon is released as per Tae-gu’s terms, but she seeks retribution by ambushing the gangsters at the very restaurant where she and Tae-gu first crossed paths before taking her own life on the beach, surrounded by the relentless pounding of the waves. The film concludes with a resounding explosion in the background, a fittingly dramatic punctuation mark on this tale of unrelenting violence and tragic sacrifice.
