What is Tae-gu's profession?
Get the full story of Night in Paradise with a detailed plot summary. Dive into its themes, characters, and the twists that make it a must-watch.
It narrates the harrowing tale of Tae-gu, a steadfast mobster who resolutely declines a tempting offer to change allegiances with his rival faction, the Bukseong gang, which is governed by the ruthless Chairman Doh. In a devastating act of retaliation, Tae-gu’s sister and niece are brutally murdered, propelling him into a violent quest for vengeance. As he seeks retribution, he dispatches Chairman Doh and his cronies with chilling efficiency before escaping to the scenic Jeju Island. There, he encounters Jae-Yeon, a woman battling a terminal illness, as well as her arms dealer uncle, Kuto.
Simultaneously, Tae-gu’s superior, Chairman Yang, hatches a sinister plan to obliterate the remaining lieutenants of the Bukseong Gang to eradicate the threat entirely. Unfortunately, this plot suffers a catastrophic failure in the absence of Tae-gu’s leadership and expertise, resulting in relentless pursuit by Director Ma of the Bukseong gang, who is hell-bent on exacting revenge. Faced with mounting pressure, Yang ultimately betrays Tae-gu, delivering him into the hands of the Bukseong gang to preserve his own life. In the chaos, Kuto meets a grim fate during a firefight with his buyers, leaving Tae-gu and Jae-Yeon desperately on the run.
Things take a darker turn as Tae-gu finds himself a victim of betrayal by Yang, enduring horrendous torture inflicted by Ma’s mercenaries. In a shocking revelation, Ma exposes the truth that Yang orchestrated the murders of Tae-gu’s sister and niece, driven by fears of Tae-gu defecting to the Bukseong gang, which would strip Yang of his power. Fueled by rage, Tae-gu confronts Yang, but ultimately falls at the hands of Ma’s thugs, with Yang delivering the fatal blow. Although Jae-Yeon is released as part of Tae-gu’s deal, she is consumed by grief and vengeance. In a final act of defiance, she ambushes the gangsters at the restaurant where she and Tae-gu first crossed paths and tragically takes her own life on the beach. The narrative concludes dramatically, marked by a resonant explosion echoing in the background.
