Plot Summary

Jenny Nayar (Shahana Goswami), a brilliant innovator at Barron Industries, takes center stage at an industry conference, unveiling a groundbreaking technology that revolutionizes the way digital worlds interact with reality. This innovation allows for seamless wireless transmissions, enabling objects from the virtual realm to enter the physical world. Meanwhile, Shekhar Subramanium (Shahrukh Khan), a game designer struggling to find success after a string of commercial failures, is given one final chance to create a video game that will capture the hearts of players worldwide. His wife Sonia (Kareena Kapoor) and son Prateek (Armaan Verma) urge him to bring his A-game, and Shekhar’s response is a bold move: he turns to Prateek’s idea of making the antagonist more powerful than the protagonist.

Shekhar collaborates with fellow game designer Akashi (Tom Wu), who brings the characters’ movements to life. Jenny crafts the game’s programming, using Shekhar’s likeness as the model for G.One, the heroic protagonist. In contrast, Ra.One, the malevolent force opposing G-One, remains faceless. Each player wields a H.A.R.T device, granting them the powers they need to succeed in the virtual world. The game, titled “Ra.One,” features three challenging levels, with players vulnerable to elimination only in the final level, where a special gun holding a single bullet can prove decisive. As the game is put through its paces, Akashi notices peculiarities but chooses to overlook them.

When the game finally launches, it receives widespread acclaim, and Prateek is utterly enthralled, insisting on playing immediately. He logs in under the alias “Lucifer” and advances to the second level before being interrupted by Akashi. However, Ra.One’s frustration grows as Lucifer refuses to heed the rules, prompting the antagonist to become hell-bent on destroying him.

As tensions escalate, Ra.One exploits the technology introduced at the beginning of the film to enter the real world, causing chaos in the mainframe. Shekhar is informed of the crisis by Akashi before his untimely demise at the hands of Ra.One, who assumes his form and sets out to find Lucifer. The path of destruction converges with Shekhar’s own journey as he rushes home, driven by concern for his son’s safety.

As Shekhar (desperate to save his son) makes a bold declaration - claiming he is none other than Lucifer himself - Ra.One scans his I.D. and brutally eliminates him for his audacity. The funeral has barely concluded when Sonia reveals their plan to return to India, leaving behind the memories of this tragic event. But Prateek’s keen observational skills soon uncover the eerie digital footprints left at the scene of his father’s demise, revealing that Ra.One has somehow come back to life. As the family prepares for takeoff, Prateek and Jenny attempt to bring G.One to life in a manner eerily similar to Ra.One’s resurrection. The resurrected Ra.One gives chase, but G.One manages to temporarily dismantle him via a gas explosion triggered by his entry into the real world through Jenny’s computer. As Sonia realizes she cannot abandon G.One, he accompanies them to India, vowing to protect Prateek from harm. Meanwhile, Ra.One regains consciousness and takes the form of Arjun Rampal, a billboard model, hell-bent on pursuing G.One and Prateek.

At Prateek’s birthday celebration, Ra.One hypnotizes Sonia, assumes her form, and kidnaps the young boy. He then orders G.One to relinquish his H.A.R.T., while dispatching the real Sonia onto a Mumbai Suburban Railway train. The train hurtles towards the Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus, only for G.One to intervene just in time, saving Sonia from certain destruction. Undeterred, he returns to rescue Prateek and reclaims control of his digital avatar. As the battle rages on, both protagonists reach the third level.

As their energy dwindles, G.One and Prateek concoct a plan to outmaneuver Ra.One. They trick him into firing at G.One without his H.A.R.T., leaving the villain helpless and enraged. The real Ra.One then creates ten duplicates of himself, but Prateek is unable to distinguish the original from the copies. It is only when G.One quotes Shekhar’s words - “If you join the forces of evil, its shadows shall always follow you” - that they realize the true Ra.One is the only one with a shadow. With this knowledge, G.One eliminates him and absorbs his remains before finally disappearing.

Months later, Prateek and Sonia return to London, where he eventually manages to restore G.One to the physical world.
