What is Dr. Kostis's profession?

Plot Summary

As Dr. Kostis (played by) arrives on the picturesque resort island, he’s warmly welcomed by the mayor, who paints a tranquil picture of life outside the bustling summer months. With Christmas festivities in full swing, Kostis settles into his new surroundings, encountering a colorful cast of characters, including Takis, a charismatic local who warns him that the island will transform into a hedonistic playground when the summer crowds arrive.

As the seasons change and summer finally descends upon the island, Kostis finds himself treating a young tourist named Anna (played by), whose injured leg brings her to his office. Her friends - Alin, Mila, Jason, and Morten - enthusiastically accompany her to the examination room, their boisterous behavior prompting Kostis to humor them with a series of questions while filling out paperwork. However, it’s Anna who turns the tables on him, playfully probing Kostis about his own life, revealing that he’s a youthful 21 years older than her.

After completing his duties at work, Kostis ventures out to the island’s infamous nude beach, where his imposing figure - complete with a receding hairline and considerable girth - makes him an unwitting spectacle amidst the sun-kissed crowd. Donning a makeshift loincloth, he attempts to blend in, feigning interest in asking Anna and her friends for a lighter. Recognizing their new acquaintance, they invite him to join them, and Kostis becomes an honorary member of their carefree tribe.

As the days go by, Kostis finds himself irresistibly drawn to Anna’s charms, joining her and her friends at the beach every afternoon after work, where he supplies them with copious amounts of free beer. His dedication to his new role as beachside benefactor is so unwavering that he even turns away an elderly patient complaining of back pain, prioritizing his own indulgence in the sun-drenched revelry.

As Anna issues an invitation to join the beachside revelry, Kostis finds himself drawn to Orestis, a former acquaintance from medical school, who’s vacationing on the island with his family. Overhearing the conversation, Orestis encourages Kostis to take the plunge, warning him that these parties are notorious for their hedonistic abandon; Kostis eventually agrees. The host of the gathering then decrees that everyone should engage in impromptu kisses with those nearby, and as the partygoers indulge in a mix of heterosexual and homosexual pairings, Kostis’s focus remains solely on Anna. However, after they’ve shared a romantic moment, she shifts her attention to others, leaving Kostis feeling increasingly jealous and disheartened. Anna chastises him for his possessiveness, prompting Kostis to withdraw from the party, dejected. Orestis later attempts to console him, reminding him that such events are not suited for middle-aged men like themselves.

As Kostis becomes more entrenched in Anna’s company, the villagers begin to express their discontent with his behavior, including his dismissal of an elderly woman. Eventually, Anna invites Kostis to join her on a solo beach excursion, and they share a momentous first sexual encounter. Ashamed at reaching orgasm too swiftly, Kostis apologizes profusely, but Anna brushes off his concerns, assuring him that he’ll have ample opportunity to make it up to her over the summer. However, Anna disappears from view for several days, leaving Kostis feeling frustrated and lost. He spends most of his time scouring the beaches and bars in search of her, becoming increasingly disillusioned as the hours tick by.

When Kostis encounters Takis at a local watering hole, he’s urged to let loose and carouse with his friend. They eventually pick up a female tourist, who grows exasperated with Takis’ aggressive advances. Kostis rises to her defense, annoying Takis in the process, and she ultimately performs oral sex on him.

Anna’s eventual reappearance is met with a jubilant reaction from Kostis, but his enthusiasm quickly turns to anger as he confronts her about abandoning the island without warning. When Anna becomes offended, Kostis apologizes profusely and declares his undying love for her, only to be rebuffed once more. Crushed, Kostis begins stalking Anna, covertly observing as she engages in sexual encounters with a series of random men. His attempts to reconnect with her at a local nightclub ultimately prove futile, as he’s ejected by the bouncer after forcefully trying to dance with her.

As Kostis’ world unravels, he arrives at the clinic hours after his scheduled shift has ended, amidst a chaotic emergency situation. The mayor’s patience with Kostis’ consistent tardiness finally wears thin, and with a heavy sigh, delivers the devastating news: Kostis is no longer employed at the clinic. Reeling from the sudden loss of purpose, Kostis seeks solace in the bottom of a bottle, his intoxication leading him to lash out at Anna’s friend, an innocent bystander who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In a haze of booze-fueled anger and desperation, Kostis kidnaps the young woman, dragging her unconscious form back to the clinic. As he struggles to come to terms with his own actions, a glimmer of humanity peeks through the darkness. He administers a dose of sedative to calm his captive’s wild thrashing, then gazes down at her lifeless body, his expression morphing from cruelty to despair.

As the reality of what he has done begins to sink in, Kostis’ tears flow like a river, washing away the remnants of his self-respect. With a heavy heart, he tenders to Anna’s friend’s wounds, a poignant display of remorse and regret that serves as a fleeting respite from the darkness that has consumed him.
